Charged with explosive color and brooding abstract imagery, this dramatic series of paintings and prints by the prolific artist, writer, and art historian Fred Martin represents a brilliant new direction for his work. Deeply involved with Bay Area art, Martin was director of the college of the San Francisco Art Institute from 1965 to 1975, and dean of academic affairs from 1983 to 1992. Martin has exhibited widely and is in numerous museum collections, including the Fogg Museum at Harvard University, the Oakland Museum of California, SFMOMA, MOMA, and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.
