Bleckman’s genius and approach to music is unique and colorful. In his stage performances, he includes a plethora of instrumentation and soundscapes. He takes risks with lofty rhythms and provocative sound improvisations. He created the space alien language in Steven Spielburg’s Men In Black. He admits a love affair with the performance art setting.
His playful approach and expressions physically and his colorful clothing, that he crafts each show with the music leading to a dynamic conclusion or highlights his music and performances with unusual audiences including a Fresh Air interview with Terri Gross and an article on vocal technique solicited for John Zorn’s Arcana series, Volume III. Bleckman’s works are called, “Out of this world!” New York Times called his art, “From another planet.”
All About Jazz called him, “Magical, futuristic”. While Village Voice noted him, “Transcendent” and City paper, Philadelphia sayed he was “Limitless!” He appeared on the David Letterman show with Laurie Anderson, also know for her unique sounds and stage shows. A jazz singer and new music performer he is Grammy nominated. His music is sophisticated, unsentimentally emotional and seriously playful.
