Originating from Sacramento, Stereo Earth was formed in 2004 by singer / songwriter, Jason Vaughan. The current lineup with Jason includes Josh Myers on bass, James Collins on keys, Aaron “Indie Sax” Thurman on horns, John Chengary on drums, and the award winning R+B artist Miss Mae G on lead and backing vocals. The band has been compared to Sublime, 311, Black Eyed Peas, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Stereo Earth started out as dub rock/reggae band, but with a few line-up changes, the sound progressed radically. Collaborations with Miss Mae Gee brought in a big R+B influence, and the newer members brought in a more upbeat, danceable sound with a whole lot more rock and roll, while still not losing the band’s catchy reggae roots. The result is an infectious mix of rock, reggae and soul.
Jason is a very energetic front man, and the dynamic between Jason Vaughan and Miss Mae Gee always makes for an engaging performance. Live performances have varied in recent years between outdoor music festivals, backyard parties, well established music clubs, and even nudist resorts all across Northern California and Nevada.
Stereo Earth released “Autonomous,” their studio debut earlier this year. The first run of CDs sold out in 2 days. It can currently be found on CDBaby.com, iTunes, AmieStreet.com, and several Sacramento/Davis area record stores (The Beat, Dimple Records, and Armadillo Music), as well as by contacting the band directly through their website. They are currently working on a new full-length album, as well as a collaborative album with Miss Mae Gee, both due out later this year or early next year. A follow-up tour is planned for Spring, 2011.
