No Taboo is an original, funky, rocking old school R&B band with and incredible amount of talent and versatility, being great music lovers. Jimmy Rode, co-founder and lead vocalist of No Taboo can really belt out a tune with genuine soul and a heartfelt presence. She also doubles on congas which adds to the rhythmic flow. Having sung with various Bay Area bands such as The Great Highway, Carousel, and Hotline for many years, she also opened for greats such as BB King, Taj Mahal, and Jefferson Starship. She has always had a passion for rhythm and blues and has wowed many audiences over the years. Some of her influences are Aretha Franklin, Etta James, and Bonnie Raitt, to name a few.
Michael Powers, co/founder and guitarist for No Taboo not only masters the guitar, but plays violin as well. His lead vocals and unique style blend well with the band. Writing has always been his forte and he has been writing music for most of his career. While in L.A., he was discovered by Kurt Boetcher of The Beach Boys and worked on writing and performance projects with him, which then appeared in movies and videos in the late 80’s.
Jeff Marshall, bassist/lead vocalist for No Taboo is is so funky, you’d think he invented the term! One just can’t sit down when listening to the infectious thumping bass rhythms when he’s playing. Being the showman that he is, everyone loves his playfulness and quick wit. Orginally from Santa Cruz, Jeff was the “soulman” for the very popular well known blues band, Red Beans and Rice. Being a strong vocalist, he hits those high harmonies that only someone with an excellent ear can sing.
David Pazos, drummer for No Taboo is not only amazing and super talented, but he is also a lot of fun to watch. He plays with such passion and conviction, one wonders where he gets all that energy. David has worked in the music industry in L.A. for years for Capitol Records where he did a lot of session work. In turn, that experience has given him the capability to play any style, anywhere, at anytime. He’s always ready.
Aaron Gayden, keyboards/lead vocalist for No Taboo can really bring down the house with his 4 octave vocal range. Not only does he play monster keys, but also doubles on bass when needed. He has toured extensively in the U.S,. Mexico, Japan, and the Bahamas with such artists as Latin Hall of Famer Raul Pinedaas, and pianist Otmaro Ruiz. He loves just about all things musical, but R&B, jazz, and gospel are home.
Carlos McCoy, saxophonist, is the newest member of the band, adding great R&B and jazz solos and he writes all the horn parts for No Taboo. He also doubles on flute and clarinet which displays a mutitude of talent. Nicaraguan born, Carlos started playing at 16 and went on gaining a vast amount of touring experience throughout Europe, meanwhile getting his college education through scholorships and awards. With many credits to his name, he is truly an asset to the band.
