Michelle Coyle is a 19 years old artist from the Sacramento area. She enjoys time spent riding her horse and hanging out with her boyfriend. Besides painting, she works full time at only one job, after having working two part time jobs for the past three years. She lives by the motto: “Work hard, play hard.”
She has been drawing things for as long as she can remember. It started out with her discovery of horses. Since then, she has done everything in her power to get closer to the majestic species. She started, humbly, by drawing them. Her first drawings were trying, at best. However, she never gave up. This led her to bringing a sketchbook wherever she went, and sketching every spare minute she had. From doodling in her notebook, to drawing on the back of her tests, she was constantly sketching.
It has only evolved from there. She started taking her first art classes at high school. Their art program consists of levels from Basic Art (Art 1) to AP Studio Art (Art 5). Her Basic Art class taught her about the stepping stones to creating any piece of art, including: shading, color, and basic composition. In Advanced Art, she learned more about composition and she used a variety of mediums in various assignments. One such assignment was the “gridded face”, where a high-quality picture was taken of herself and replicated on a larger scale using graphite. This sounds fairly

daunting, but with the use of grids both on the photograph and the paper, the face was easy to accomplish. The grids also enabled her to show intricate details, that would otherwise go unknown. She also started painting in Advanced Art; she started with acrylics, and throughout her other classes, she started dabbling in oil painting. Near the end of her career in high school, she was required to turn her portfolio into the College Board for her AP (Advanced Placement) Exam. They score the artists portfolios based on a scale from 1 (no recommendation) to 5 (extremely well qualified). As one of her prized accomplishments, her portfolio was scored as a 5.
Because of her art classes and her amazing professor that taught them, she has learned many different tips and tricks that help her paint anything she wants, or that is required of her. As shown in her variegated portfolio, she has proven that she can accomplish anything. She has a wide range of interests, so this is a beneficial asset that helps diversify her paintings and make them unique.
