MatrixArts KidsLit Benefit at Castle Dab
MatrixArts is having a benefit for MatrixArts KidsLit, on Sunday December 5th, at the CastleDab, 2014 23rd Street, Sacramento, CA from 2 pm to 7 pm. The Castle Dab is the home of MatrixArts education director, Maryellen Burns and her husband Leo Dabaghian. It’s celebrating its 100th year, too, and will be looking kind of sparkly.
The afternoon features some great food and wine, plus a sample of some of the great gifts that are gracing our Gift of Art show this year – estate jewelry, artisanal jewelry, plus small ceramic sculptures, holiday cards, candles, a ton of art books, cookbooks and much more. Attached is a PDF that will tell you everything you need to know. You can come for free and just buy stuff or you can donate and get great benefits.
KidsLit will also be on Indiegogo.com so you can pledge there through January 15th.
MatrixArts KidsLit celebrates the written, performed, and published word through interactive, multi-sensory experiences for kids and their families. We plan on a full year of workshops, talks, forums, panel discussions, live performances, author readings, open Mic nights, writing contests, and other totally hands-on visual, performing, media, and literary arts experiences. The program culminates in an art exhibit, performance, and interactive web site.
Programs will be offered in all twenty-eight of the Sacramento Public Libraries and @R25, ACAI, the Sacramento Press and other venues through out Northern California and is a worthwhile cause to give to.
If you’re a teaching artist/writer and would like to be part of the KidsLit experience give us a jingle (916) 454-4988 or

If you’re looking for that hard to find present to give to friends and family this holiday season, or want to create a piece of art to give away during the holidays join MatrixArts at The Gift of Art, kicking off Saturday November 13th and going through Saturday December 18th. The Gift of Art will be held at the new Pop-Up Gallery @ACAI in Fair Oaks, 7425 Winding Way.
There will be tons of art to buy and art to make. We’re open almost every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and during all open studio hours.

Lisa Johnson, Aiyanna Pearson, Sister Sheba, Amy Eckert, Tamara Short, Deborah Smith, Michael Smith, Maryellen Burns, Lawrence Fox, Laura Martin, Tom Haseltine, Joy Gee, Kenneth Kelsoe, Erika Bryd Foley, Daphne Burgess (and students) and a whole lot more.
You’ll also be able to purchase signed in the stone lithographs by Alexander Calder and Picasso, a self-portrait by Darrel Forney, plus photography, estate jewelry, textile arts, ceramic sculpture, greeting cards and boxes, art kits and supplies, and other ephemera you won’t find at all the craft fairs you’re invited to this time of year. We even have A Dollar Store, full of arts and craft supplies.
Bring the family and make art to take home. Each day we’ll create a different holiday gift idea – miniature book ornaments, origami stars, decoupage boxes and more. The Gift of Art is a fundraiser though so expect to donate to cover cost of materials. Never more than $10.
Proceeds benefit MatrixArts Kids, and teen and adult programs in schools, libraries and community centers.
