A native of Southern California, Marsha Schindler graduated from Cal Poly Pomona University with a degree in biology and worked as a marine biologist in Southern California on boats and in aquaria museums.
Marsha decided to return to school and attain a masters degree in art at Cal State Long Beach University, looking to enter the field of exhibit design. Painting and illustration took hold and for the next 13 years she worked as an independent muralist and an interpretive designer for the State of California and Sacramento County.
One of her more prominent projects was to design and create a 35 foot mural for Maria Shriver currently at the California State Capitol in the Governor’s Office.
Marsha designs and creates nature exhibits, continues to create commercial murals, and currently is a teacher at American River College in Sacramento, teaching design, drawing and other art classes. This summer she is the ‘spot light’ art instructor for Academic Talent Search—which draws 6th through 9th grade students to participate in advanced learning at the Sacramento State University campus.
Her latest passion is working with clay. She in interested in both sculpture and murals that
incorporate hand made tile forms. Her current work focuses on the transformation of the female figure into tree forms. The storytelling of our connectedness to the earth and it’s creatures is a reoccurring theme. Combining her skills, her work is unique and dynamic.
