The National Academic Youth Corps and the Sojourner Truth Multicultural Art Museum presented the 1st Annual Banana Festival- celebrating community, culture and health. From August 13th through August 15th, Consumnes River College in Sacramento, CA hosted the extensive lineup of music, art, food and entertainment at the 2010 Banana Festival. This year’s festival celebrated healthy lifestyles and eating as well as the many cultures in Asia, Africa and the Americas which use the banana as a source of food, art and culture.
The 2010 Banana Festival has its roots in the SOJO Fine Arts Festival, which for the past 7 years has been a major factor towards increasing community awareness of historical and cultural values. This year the festival had over 18,000 attendees as they reached out to a larger audience and offer a wide range of attractions, spanning all age groups and the many cultural groups in the Sacramento area.
The mission and goal of the Banana Festival is to enhance the community’s knowledge of art culture and wellness in an elaborate, positive and fun environment.
The Banana Festival desires to inspire, ignite and enrich our community, and do this by making the festival accessible and affordable to a wide range of participants. With free parking and a low $5.00 entrance fee for the whole weekend, the festival provided an opportunity for the community to unite and work towards the stability, development and vitality of cultural history, arts and artists.
